REFUELING STATIONS AND VEHICLE SERVICING FACILITIES
Infrastructure development is the epitome of the “chicken & egg” regarding the full commercialization of hydrogen powered vehicles for transportation applications. While the number and location of fueling stations will depend on the timing and characteristics of hydrogen vehicle deployment, it is clear that the development of a network of hydrogen fueling stations will be a necessary component of any hydrogen fueled transportation system.
There are some basic components for refueling stations but also some variations. Since there are a limited number of refueling stations in operation and/or design in the world, the designs have not been standardized. Because of these factors, HS helps clients address the following issues:
- Ensure Codes & Standards are being met with the proposed design.
- The production on-site or delivery of hydrogen, storage, and dispensing subsystems are harmonized when integrated.
- Interface with local permitting officials by building a strong case for the station design.
- Inspection of work prior to operation as a verify all subsystems are properly installed and working as designed.
- Safety training of operating and supervising personnel.
- Assisting with the preliminary work of gaining the public and political support through awareness discussions.
Vehicle Service Facilities
As a natural corollary to hydrogen vehicles is the need for hydrogen equipped facilities to service them. HS continues to work with vehicle suppliers to assure the codes & standards, and best practices are incorporated into the design and operations of their servicing facilities. Many of the same services outlined above are also applicable to these types of facilities.
